who we are

We are both registered members of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP) and work according to its Ethical Framework. We both hold Post-Graduate qualifications in Integrative Relational Counselling & Psychotherapy.

Liz Merrell MBACP

‘I have many years of experience in enabling people to explore and express themselves, both creatively and for personal development. I originally worked in arts education with adults and young people, and later as a qualified complementary therapist using therapeutic touch and energy healing. I see counselling and psychotherapy as useful ways of finding some breathing space. Space to get in touch with yourself or understand yourself better. Space to come to terms with feelings or experiences that have been making life difficult. Space to gain some clarity and resilience. I have worked as a counsellor at Bradford University, WomenCentre in Huddersfield and currently for Noah’s Ark, both in Halifax and for their outreach service at Valley Medical Centre in Hebden Bridge. I have also been running counselling skills courses for Calderdale Adult Education for the past 5 years.’

Lou Birks MA MBACP

fullsizeoutput_16f‘I have spent many years working in mental health, personal development & support and education & training.  I see counselling & psychotherapy as a useful way of bringing together the conflicting parts of ourselves, that can sometimes prevent us from reaching our full potential.   I work sensitively, with great compassion and in a down-to-earth, practical way with individuals and in groups, using a clear theoretical framework.
I can help you to find out where you want to be in life – you may have a particular problem or issue to sort out, for example a difficult relationship, a bad habit, an unrealised ambition, or just always being down on yourself and beating yourself up.  Whatever it might be, I can work in a short or long term way to help you achieve your goals.
